APPLICATION
Experimental vacuum techniques based the state of polarization and correlated with changes to chemical and physical states require that the light entering or exiting an apparatus preserve the state of polarization. Stress induced birefringence in viewports rotate circularly polarized light and should be avoided in such applications as magneto-optical-Kerr-effect (MOKE) experiments, Bose-Einstein Condensate apparatus (BEC) and in the monitoring of molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) by ellipsometry methods.
