The Insulator Seal division of MDC Vacuum Products recently collaborated with a multidisciplinary research organization to develop pressure vessels which will be used to study condensed matter response to extreme conditions. These studies are aimed at understanding the chemical and physical changes to solids and liquids while undergoing extreme compression – namely, shock physics. The challenging design of rectangular, high pressure viewports provided means for monitoring axial progression of shock waves.
